Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) supports students in developing strong positive values and equipping them with qualities that will help them in later life. We therefore actively encourage students to take part in the DofE Award, which many do each year, with great success
Holyrood Academy offers students from Year 9 onwards the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award Programmes.
At Holyrood we currently offer the Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Bronze programme is offered to all students in Year 9, free of charge and within the school day, so that all students can take part. Silver is offered in Year 10 and students then complete their Silver Award during Year 11. The Gold Award is undertaken in the Sixth Form.
Students who have achieved their Gold Award are invited to either Buckingham Palace or St James Palace to formally receive their Award in the presence of the Earl of Wessex.
To achieve each Award students must complete a programme of activities in four or five sections that involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity. Students keep track of the progress on the electronic system available through the Duke of Edinburgh website www.dofe.org
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards are renowned by employers and universities alike for the qualities available to young people outside of their academic studies.
Holyrood is one of the most successful completion centres for the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in the region.
